Stewart J. Thomas – LPES/EHS Chair

Prof. Stewart J. Thomas (TC Chair) (Member, IEEE) received the B.S. and M.Eng. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky in 2006 and 2008, respectively, and the Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina in 2013. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. His research interests include wireless power transfer, low-power communication, and RFID systems. Prior to joining the faculty at Bucknell University in 2018, Prof. Thomas was a Postdoctoral Associate at Duke University from June 2013 to December 2013, a Research Scientist at Duke University from December 2013 to July 2015, and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana from August 2015 to August 2018. He has coauthored several international journal papers, international conference contributions and a United States patent related to wirelessly powered RFID systems and backscatter communication. Prof. Thomas has held memberships in IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society, IEEE Communications Society, IEEE Computer Society, and the American Society for Engineering Education. He serves on the organizing committee for the IEEE RFID conference in various roles since 2013 and is currently the conference Executive Chair.
